Obituary

William W. Carter, Jr., 95, of Loop Road, Lewistown, passed away on Tuesday June 30, 2020 at his home.
Born November 14, 1924 in Naginey, he was the son of the late William W. Carter, Sr. and Myrtle (Shank) Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Bertha Ammerman, Catherine Gahagan, Sylvia Carter, Pauline DeLaura, Dorothy Bennett, Charles McClellan, Dansy Carter, Layfield Carter, Danny Carter, and a great-granddaughter, Melissa Collins.
William is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Host) Carter; Children, Connie Mae Hassinger, and Brenda McCardle, all of Lewistown; Grandchildren, Brian Hassinger, Terry “Lynn” Hassinger, Robert Corson, and Sgt. First Class William Corson; Great-Grandchildren, Paige Yohn, Angela Myers, Hayley Corson, Conner D. Stewart, Alexis Corson, Aroum Corson, Dekoda Stewart, Xzavier Hassinger and Alex Corson; Great-Great-Granddaughter, Karley Yohn; and a sister, Shirley Hayes, of Edinboro.
William was employed at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven; Ford Motor Company; Eastside Road Works; Montgomery Ward; Mifflin County Landscape; American Viscose Corporation; Pan Tech; James F. Havice Distributors; D.M.E., and served as an usher at Beaver Stadium for Penn State Football games. He was a member of The Lewistown Presbyterian Church, where he served as secretary of his Sunday school class, and a deacon of the church. He was also a member of The Masonic Lodge, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistry 32nd Degree, Mifflin County Historical Society, Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, The Arborist Society, and The World War II Army Museum. In his free time, he enjoyed landscaping classes at Penn State University, participating in the senior Olympics, Twilight League Baseball, golfing, and spending time with his loving family.
A funeral service in loving memory of William will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday July 2, 2020 at The Barr Funeral Home Inc. & Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Revs. Sarah Sedgwick and Robert Zorn officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park at a later date.
