Roy Samuel Stine, of Church Hill Manor, Reedsville, died on Nov. 1, 2019 at the age of 92. He was born in June 1927 to parents Jay M. Stine and Lois Sunderland Stine and grew up on the family’s farm in Atkinson Mills (McVeytown). He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his wife, Sally Koons Stine, who died in 1979. Also predeceasing him was a brother, Ira Stine; sister Mildred Mattern; son-in-law Thomas McDonough; and special friend Joyce Bollinger. He is survived by his loving daughters Lorri Stover and husband Brian Stover of Reedsville; Cindy Stine and husband Robert Jackson of Apollo; granddaughter Brianna McDonough; sisters Marie Moorhead and Doris Mattern; his beloved dog, Sophie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He worked for Penelec for almost 50 years as a line foreman and supervisor of operations. Since his retirement in the mid-1990s, he enjoyed spending every winter in Haines City, Fla, where he was frequently seen in a boat on the lake or fishing on the dock. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed annual fishing trips to New York and Canada. He regularly hunted at his camp in Coopers Gap. He enjoyed monthly luncheons with the remaining classmates of the 1945 class of Mt. Union High School. He enjoyed raising abundant vegetable gardens and flower beds.

He has been a member of a number of community and civic organizations over the years. He belonged to the Reedsville Lions club; Brown Township Planning Commission; and has been on the board of directors of the Mifflin County Conservation District since 1978. He was a founding member of the Church Hill United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Jaffa Shrine; was the oldest living past master of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge, having received a 50-year masonic service award; and belonged to the Scottish Rite of Harrisburg Consistory for 50 years. He was one of the original members of the Coffee Run fishing club, where he served as treasurer/secretary, and helped raise, feed and stock the club’s fish. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his daughters, their spouses and his dog.

Family and friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16th at the Brown Township Firehall, 22 Brown Township Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at the firehall by Rev. Richard Bender. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to: Coffee Run Fishing Club, c/o Bob Zook, 241 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, PA 17004; or Victory Bible Chapel and Stables, c/o David Morrison, 1135 Camp Nancy Road, Apollo, PA 15613.
