Richard W. Hackenberg, Sr., 90, of Lewistown, passed away at 5:19 p.m. on Thursday January 2, 2020 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born June 11, 1929 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Jacob and Agnus (Haines) Hackenberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul and James Hackenberg and a daughter, Laura Labe.
Richard is survived by his loving children, Richard Hackenberg, Jr. and wife Margaret, of Alaska, Brenda Hackenberg, of Harrisburg, Caroline Hackenberg, and Joseph Hackenberg both of Lewistown, and Barbara Slingland and husband Paul, Jr. of McAlisterville, Grandchildren, Jacob, Daniel and Aaron Labe, John Rebuck, Hunter Hackenberg, and Hayden Slingland, and 3 Great-Grandchildren.
Richard was enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a custodian at Mifflin County School District for 28 years retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Lewistown VFW Post 7011, The Lewistown Owls Club, and the Mifflin County Sportsman’s Association. In his free time, Richard enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting and fishing.
A memorial service in loving memory of Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 10, 2020 at The Barr Funeral Home Inc., and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Rev. John Walters to officiate.
