Obituary

John R. Shawver, Jr.; 71 years young, of McClure, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 22, 1948 in Lewistown to the late John R. Shawver, Sr. and Eleanor B. (Walls) Shawver-Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John Miller and household dog, Buddy.
John is survived by his wife Susan J. (Fultz) Shawver whom he married on August 3, 1968 and shared 51 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving are his three children and their spouses. Melissa K. Lamberson and husband Jeffrey K, Sr., John L. Shawver and wife Tracy A. all of Belleville. Brian P. Shawver and wife Jennifer L, of McClure. Six grandchildren whom he cherished; Jeffrey K. Lamberson, Jr., of Belleville; Kyle M. Parson and wife Nichole M. of McClure; Shannon N. Lamberson of Belleville; Jessica E. Lamberson, of Bloomsburg; Daniel R. Kipp and Noah M. Shawver both of Belleville. Three Great-Grandchildren; Olivia M. Parson, Ellah M. Kipp and Masen T. Kipp.
John is also survived by his two brothers and their spouses; Jerry I. Shawver and wife Autumn; Donald E. Shawver and wife Cindy all of McClure. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
John was a 1968 graduate of Chief Logan High School. In his earlier years he was employed by Spigelmyer Greenhouse in Shindle. He then worked 48 hard years in the Standard Steel Wheel Mill Department as a furnace operator. Retiring in October of 2018. John was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church Havice Valley, Milroy. He was also a member of the Steele Worker Union 1940, Lewistown Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 143, and The McClure American Legion Post 942. He was an active member of the former Alfarata Lions Club.
John enjoyed spending time and cooking for his family and friends. He liked going to flea markets, auctions, and supported many local fundraisers. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s’ activities and sporting events where he was their biggest fan. John made many friends over the years and was always willing to help those in need. He will be greatly missed by all and including his faithful dog, Lacy.
Per John’s wishes, his body will be donated to Science.
A celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at The Lewistown Loyal Order of the Moose, 80 Brady Lane, Lewistown, with Pastor Dale Benner officiating. John’s family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Private interment in Maitland Community Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc. & Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in John’s memory are respectfully encouraged to: St. Marks United Methodist Havice Valley C/O Gail Romig, 1144 Locke Mills Rd, Milroy PA 17063; or Hospice 365 at 220 Regent Court Suite E2, State College PA 16801.
