John Edward Houtz, 78, of Lewistown, passed away at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday April 19, 2022 at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1944 at Lewistown Hospital, a son of Blaine W. Houtz and Betty J. (Grumbine) Houtz
On April 9, 1968 he married Dolly D. (Buchanan) Houtz who survives.
He is also survived by children, Kelly M. Huff and husband Bill, of McClure; Kim E. Matthews and husband Craig, of McVeytown; and son, Joshua J. Houtz, of Bridgeville.
Also 5 grandchildren, Cody Tallon and companion Kate Long, Cale Matthews and companion Samone Arentz, Jade Houtz and companion Dustin Packer, Sophie (Matthews) Christine and husband Brice, and Morgan Houtz; great-grandchildren, Layla, Tyson, Addi, Knox, Sophina, Arianna, Milo, Scarlett, Fletcher, Bonnibel, and Dahlia
Also surviving is brother, Mark Houtz and wife Pam, of McVeytown and sisters, Joyce (Houtz) Cavanaugh, of McVeytown, Lois (Houtz) Kenepp, Mary Lou (Houtz) Miller and husband Larry, of Lewistown, and Elaine (Houtz) Searer and husband Jack, of McVeytown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John served in The United States Air Force from 1964 to 1967 in Europe serving in France and England.
He retired from Standard Steel after thirty-four years as a machinist and a supervisor.
He also worked at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital for ten years.
He was a Christian by faith and was an active member at Key to Life Church of God in Lewistown where he taught the adult Sunday School class and served on the Pastor’s council for many years. He loved his church family.
He loved vacationing in The Outer Banks, NC with his family and his wife’s brothers and wives. Made so many wonderful memories.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, walking and hiking with his faithful dog Franny
He mostly enjoyed time spent with his wife and best friend Dolly. She was the joy of his life.
A memorial service in loving memory of John will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday April 22, 2022 at King-Barr Funeral Home LLC, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, with Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. There will be a visitation held at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until time of service.
