Obituary

John B. Blessing, 79, of McVeytown, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his home.
Born Dec. 11, 1940, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Blaine C. and Mary L. (Bramm) Blessing.
John is survived by his wife Ella Mae (Goss) Blessing, whom he married December 4, 1967; his daughters, Jennifer Blessing of McVeytown and Karen Sufczynski and husband Chris of South Carolina and his grandchildren whom he loved very much, Christopher “CJ”, Nicholas, Nathaniel and a step-grandson Derrick.
He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lou Wolfe.
John was a graduate of Lewistown High School Class of 1958. He played guard for the Lewistown’s undefeated football team in 1957. After high school, John graduated from Thompson Institute.
John served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He had worked at Krentzman Supply, manager at Busy Beaver, owner of Goss Market in Strodes Mills and worked at Diehl’s Flowers.
John was a past member and volunteer firefighter for Henderson Fire Company.
He was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was a member of Barnabas Brothers. John was an avid Penn State Football Fan.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Pastor Alan Hunslander to officiate.
There will be a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Mount Rock Cemetery.
For those wishing to make memorial donations, please make them in John’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044, or American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y., 10305 or the website apda@apdaparkinson.org
Arrangements are under the care of Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
