Obituary

Jean D. Sonnenberg, 79, of Lewistown, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday January 8, 2020 at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.
Born January 31, 1940, in Broad Top City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Defibaugh) Long.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Louis Sonnenberg, of Lewistown, whom she married on June 15, 1963; Her children, Bryan Sonnenberg, and wife Candy, of Orbisonia, and Brett Sonnenberg and companion Robin of Clearfield; Siblings, Ethel Foor and husband Neil, of Three Springs, Nancy Duvall and companion Gary, of Saxton, Susan Faulk and husband James, of Louisiana, Pamela Long, of Claysburg, Penny Shaffer and companion Reon, of Wells Tannery, and Robert Long also of Wells Tannery; and Grandchildren, Jacob, Remi and Declan.
Jean was employed at J. Alvin Hawbaker, and later at Rea & Derrick Drugs in Lewistown.
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewistown.
Jean was a member of 99’s Women’s Flying Club, and even owned her own plane that she loved to fly for many years. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, playing the piano, the organ and saxophone; she also loved to sew and knit. Above all, she loved being a wife, and mother, she adored her two sons and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 13, 2020 at The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Rev. Jerri Carlin to officiate. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s memory are respectfully encouraged to: The Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Dr. Suite 100, Harrisburg PA 17110, or a charity of one’s choice.
