Obituary

James A. Spendiff of Lewistown died Sunday, September 6, 2020. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Riden Spendiff, and his daughter Lara M. Spendiff Voorhies, her husband John “Jack” Voorhies, and his grandson, John James Spendiff Voorhies, who reside in Florida. Jim is the son of the late Albert F. and M. Evelyn Spendiff, and the brother of Peter A. Spendiff and E. Margery Pascale, who both, with their families reside in Cohoes, NY.
Jim was born in Troy, NY on July 5, 1943. He graduated from Lansingburgh HS and attended The University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the Wharton School of Business. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired as President and CEO of Standard Steel/Freedom Forge in 2001.
Jim served his community through many volunteer boards, including Valley View Retirement Community, United Way of M-J, MC Planning Commission, SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority and MCIDC. He was well read and enjoyed tennis, hunting, shooting and was a passionate fly fisherman. He was a member of Mountain Acres and the Kedgwick Salmon Club in NB. He was a former board member of the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, VT. He held memberships in many conservation and other organizations. Jim attended Ellen Chapel Church.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Valley View Retirement Community, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.
A celebration of Jim’s life is being planned for October. Details will be announced upon completion. Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
