Gerald E. Deavor, 80 of McVeytown, passed peacefully into the arms of our father, surrounded by his family at 11:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born February 6, 1939 in McVeytown, he was the son of the late Merle Deavor and Mary (Marker) Deavor.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Brenda (Rittenhouse) Deavor whom he married in 1960; his children,
Kelvin Deavor and wife Roberta of McVeytown; Lisa Yakamook and husband Paul, Jr. of McVeytown; Raymond Deavor and wife Melissa of McVeytown and Julie McMahon and companion Terry Gearhart of McVeytown; grandchildren, Stanley Deavor, April Deavor, Dana Hill, Amanda Boozel, Hunter Deavor, Reece Deavor, Ryan McMahon and Brena McMahon; great grandchildren, Jennica Deavor, Shawna Walter, Jada Walter, Tucker Deavor, Colin Hill, Kayla Boozel, Lilyan Boozel, Jaden Boozel, Greyson McMahon and Landon McMahon.
He is also survived by his siblings, Janice Oldt of Lewistown; David Deavor of Lewistown; Leon Deavor of New York; Kenneth Deavor of Dillsburg; Sara Specht of Lewistown and Clair Deavor of Claysburg.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Booher, Richard Deavor, James Deavor, Robert Deavor and an infant daughter, Melissa Deavor.
Gerald was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church.
Early in life, Gerald was employed by Marger Vending. Then he was employed by Avtex Fibers until their closing in 1972. Gerald was then employed by PPG Industries for 20 years. Later in life, Gerald worked for Len’s Dairy in Lewistown, until he and his wife started their own business. He was also employed by his in-laws at Yetter’s Restaurant for 30 years where he worked part-time. Gerald and Brenda currently own and operate Deavor’s Home Milk Delivery. Gerald took great pride in his business and customers. Gerald was also currently employed as the dishwasher at the family owned restaurant, Kountry Kitchen in McVeytown.
Gerald enjoyed playing old timer baseball, coaching, hunting, golfing, mowing the grass, and working in his garage. Gerald’s greatest joys in life came from spending time with his loving wife of 59 years along with his family.
A memorial service in loving memory of Gerald will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown with Rev. Stephanie Rupert officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
