Frank E. Schreiber, 85, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday January 20, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital.
Frank was born on February 6, 1935 in Mifflin County. The son of the late Frank A. Schreiber who was born in Flutok, Yugoslavia and the late Jesse A. (Kasmark) Schreiber, born in Osceola Mills. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane (Kochenderfer) Schreiber and his daughter Elaine Marie Parker.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Ann Williamson of Vermont; Steven Michael Schreiber and wife Lynn of Washington state; Son-in-Law Stephen Wade of New Cumberland; Granddaughter, Rachael Leigh Cunningham and great grandson, Sawyer Paul Bradley of Benton, Arkansas.
Frank was a 1953 graduate of Lewistown Highschool and honorably served in the USAF for four years during the Korean Conflict as an Electronic Technician for B-29’s, B-66s’ and others. He was a 1960 graduate of Northup Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering.
Frank was instrumental in the design, testing and maintenance of numerous aircraft for Boeing, Lockheed, Sikorsky and others including the C-5A transport, Chinook and Sea Knight helicopters, 707/727/737 commercial airliners and the F22 Fighter.
While Technology Manager, responsible for the structures of the wings of the 707/727/737 aircraft, he also closed out the production line of the 727 by converting the aircraft body to a freighter and designed new wings for the 700-300. He especially enjoyed his responsibilities for structural testing. In 1983, he was selected the Technology Manager of the year for quickly solving several issues that threatened to ground the 737 fleet and shut down the production line. Frank served as FAA Designated Engineering Representative for the structural integrity of 707/727/737 wings. He retired from Boeing, in Seattle in 1991 and returned to live in Lewistown.
He was Founder/Charter Member/Navigator of the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington and a lifetime member of The Boeing Management Association.
Earlier in life, he enjoyed playing golf, softball and fishing and still enjoyed his swimming pool. He was a lifelong fan of Penn State Football and The Philadelphia Phillies.
A private graveside service in loving memory of Frank will be held in Juniata Memorial Park.
