Donald D. Wertz Jr., 82, of Lewistown, passed away Monday March 22, 2021 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Don was born July 25, 1938 to the late Donald D. Wertz Sr. of Lewistown and Maude G. (Rosenberg) Wertz of Coalport, PA. He graduated from Lewistown High School and Thompson College of Harrisburg. He was the Advertising Manager at Russell Bank and later moved to Florida to work at Citizen’s Bank of Frostproof.
Don was the president of Jaycees and Easter Seals. He was a Mason, member of the Kiwanis Club and Boy Scout Leader. Don played the coronet in several bands and orchestras. He played taps for military funerals and was the bugle instructor for the American Legion Sweethearts. He spent many years traveling across the country showing horses with his three kids. In his retirement years, he joined the Model Railroad Club and completed many beautiful train buildings and layouts. He took great pride in his flower and vegetable garden and loved to share plants and produce with friends and family. Don had special talents to entertain the grandkids. He could talk like Donald Duck and whistle as beautiful as any canary.
He is survived by his three children, Brenda Barlup of Lewistown, PA, Brian Wertz of Lockport, PA and Wendy Barnes of NY. He is also survived by grandchildren: Danielle Lilly of VA, Stephanie Lopez of Anchorage, AK, William Barnes of NY, Rachel Lamb of King of Prussia, PA, Joshua Lamb of Silver Spring, MD and eight surviving great grandchildren living in Alaska, Virginia and New York.
Services have been entrusted to The King-Barr Funeral Home LLC, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown and will be private and at the convenience of the family.
